Was machte John Peel so einmalig?
"Eine neue musikalische Ära begann, als John Peel 1976 als erster „Anarchy in the UK“ und „God save the Queen“ von den Sex Pistols spielte. Er legte auch „Desire“ von Bob Dylan auf, bevor die Platte von der Plattenfirma freigegeben worden war – dasselbe tat er noch 2003 mit dem Album „Elephant“ von den White Stripes, womit er sich eine Menge Ärger einhandelte. Doch gerade das Nichtrespektieren der gängigen Regeln der Musikindustrie brachte ihm den Respekt seiner Hörer. Wenn die sich an Punk gewöhnt hatten, spielte er Reggae. Und als Reggae Common Sense wurde, entdeckte er Dub, elektronische Musik. Er spielte seine Platten vollkommen unberechenbar hintereinander, gleichzeitig, zu langsam oder zu schnell, war gefürchtet für seine schonungslosen Übergänge".
