Die schönste Zeit im Jahr – das ist für viele natürlich die Urlaubszeit. Ältere Semester denken da vielleicht auch an die Familie Semmeling aus der Fernsehserie ‚Alle Jahre wieder’ und ihre Erlebnisse im fiktiven Winterurlaubsort Örzl, aber das war 1976. Heute bei TimeOut geht es musikalisch noch weiter zurück: es gibt 2 Stunden lang Sweet Soul Music aus den 60er Jahren.

Die Sendung über und im Geiste des bekanntesten DJs der Welt: John Peel.

John Peel was one of Brtain's most loved broadcasters.

With a whiplash wit, a dry delivery and a total adoration and love of music in all its forms, Peel was a true one-off.

There was more to John Peel than spinning discs, curating the famous Peel Sessions and supporting bands with names like You've Got Foetus On Your Breath and Napalm Death.

You may not know that he 'did time' in the army and he battled bullies at a posh boarding school. Glad to say he came out on top and with a healthy disregard for authority.

You also may not know that he sailed the high seas as a pirate (of sorts) and was known in his day to be quite a looker, winning the mass adoration from thousands of screaming teenage Beatlemaniacs across the Atlantic. His Liverpudlian roots were to blame for that!

Hopefully this biography will give you a little more insight into the man behind the microphone, splash a bit of colour on a kaleidoscopic life, and explain exactly why John Peel is so greatly missed by so many music fans.

Die auf infame Weise erschnorrten Demo-CDs ungesignter Bands aus England, Lettland, Litauen, was weiß ich. Das nächste neue Ding eventuell dennoch nicht dabei, wohl aber die Geschmacksschere im Kopf der Redaktion! Doofe Lieder werden gar nicht erst gespielt. Autofahren und abspülen nebenbei erwünscht.

Live am Montag, den 12. Mai in der Pony Bar: Camilla Munck und Moogie Johnson aus Kopenhagen. Das Duo beschwört den Geist von Nick Cave, obwohl der noch gar nicht tot ist, erinnert bisweilen an Low in einer Folk-Version und hat schlicht eine der schönsten Platten für den Nachmittagscafé nach der Beerdigung Deiner Hoffnungen herausgebracht. Deutschsprachige Popmusik ist ein delikates Subjekt oder Objekt, wird sie von alleine auf der Bühne herumstehenden Herren vorgetragen, sogar meist nicht delektabel. Anders unseres Erachtens die Herren St.Emmi (ehedem Zweitgitarrist und Bassist bei Tomte) und gnill (Sänger und Gitarrist der hervorragenden Knallpopgruppe grafzahl aus Siegen) - beide vermeiden es, wie Hans und Franz aus dem Formatradio zu klingen, sind aber gleichsam keine Streichholzschachtelversion von Udo Lindenberg oder Reinhard Mey.
